What the advisories actually say
United States: Level 2 of 4, "exercise increased caution", due to crime, reissued 10 July 2026. The advisory cites violent crime including armed robbery, assault and homicide affecting locals and visitors, including incidents near resorts, and advises keeping a low profile, care after dark, vetted transport and not resisting robbery.
United Kingdom: the FCDO (updated 10 December 2025) says most visits are trouble-free, notes a continuing serious risk of homicides that are primarily gang-related and involve guns, and advises avoiding isolated areas and beaches after dark and using licensed taxis. Neither country advises against travel to any part of the island.
The numbers, dated
Police reported 70 homicides in 2025, down from 76 in 2024, which the Commissioner called the lowest figure in five years; most involved firearms. Overall reported crime fell about 16% January to September 2025 year on year, while firearm offences and attempted murders rose. Police data placed about half of early-2025 homicides in the Central (Castries) division. Saint Lucia is a small island of about 180,000 people: single incidents move the rate.
